What’s been going on this September at Wellington Anxiety Specialists
Welcome back to our blog at Wellington Anxiety Specialists. We noticed we got a little slack at updating it recently; however we’re fully committed to increase the number of ways we can stay in touch with you, so from now on we endeavor to produce, interesting, insightful and helpful blog posts for you to read.
If you’ve been in to our clinic recently you will have noticed that things have changed slightly! You now have a new wonderful face to welcome you into the clinic - Nathan. Susie has moved onto a new, challenging role managing an engineering workplace – and we wish her all the best in her new job! You may or may not have visited our webpage recently, but if you have checked the meet the team tab you will already know a little bit about our new receptionist Nathan.
Here at WAS we want to celebrate the fact that Nathan has a Masters Degree in Sports Psychology. We want to share with you some of his knowledge and expertise, and how he’s going to be applying those in the clinic. We also feel it’s important for you to have a good idea with who you’re going to be dealing with when you come into our clinic – especially as we value the importance of good relationships.
Nathan’s journey as to how he ended up here has been an exciting one (ask him next time you come in for an appointment). He spent his undergraduate years studying for a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Sport and Exercise Therapy and Sport Psychology. He then completed his Master of Science in Sports Psychology at internationally recognized Liverpool John Moore’s University. Nathan had the privilege of been tutored by some of the UK’s most recognized Sports Psychologists. In terms of psychology his interests vary. Nathan enjoys the application of Existentialism in Psychological counseling and therapy, and is also interested in topics surrounding Identity, Authenticity, Self-Awareness and Anxiety. Being a seasoned snowboarder himself, it’s not surprising that he has a specific interest in the psychology surrounding extreme and adventure sports, and this is reflected in his Master’s thesis “Understanding Identity in Elite Skiers: A Phenomenological Investigation”. It is worth knowing that Nathan has done some work as a Trainee Sports Psychologist back in the UK and he has delivered educational workshops to children ranging from the age of 10 – 17, mainly focusing on developing self-awareness and the understanding stress and anxiety both in a sporting and wider context. Nathan’s masters degree had also offered him to touch on some organizational and business psychology and here at WAS we are looking into ways we can use this to offer our clients a wider range of services.
Nathan, himself will be developing a workshop schedule as we looking at running group workshops, after clinic hours during the week. These workshops will be a little less clinical in their style and will be more geared towards educating individuals about stress, anxiety, emotional control, self awareness and providing you with a relaxed group environment in which to learn mental skills and techniques. They will be ran by Nathan himself with input from all of us at WAS and will most likely, at this stage, just be a gold coin donation – more info will follow in the not too distant future.
So, that’s it for this month, and we hope to see you all back reading next month, where we will be touching on Mindfulness and its impact on Stress and Anxiety – we will also include some great self help tips and techniques you can use at home. By that time we also hope to have an update on Nathan’s group workshops and when he will be delivering his first session.
